TEDxEvansStreet BACK IN 2023 FOR LIVE EVENT –Seeking Speakers and Performers–

(Florence, S.C., Feb. 7, 2023) – – Florence, S.C.’s TEDxEvansStreet is back for a live event to be held on April 27, 2023, with the theme of “Polarity,” which was reprised because it was changed due to COVID in 2020.

“We are excited to bring back to Florence, the global thought leader event, TEDx. TEDxEvansStreet event, which in one of seven events in the state of South Carolina, again I totally maintain Florence County and the Pee Dee area has quite a few thought leaders which this platform is fitting to give them voice,” said Tonita Perry, the TEDx licensee and organizer of the event. “After experience a pandemic and being regulated to our homes, I am sure new takes on old ideas, all going back to “ideas worth spreading” sparking action of innovation, is needed right now.”

In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. The Florence event is called TEDxEvansStreet, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxEvansStreet, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. TEDxEvansStreet is an independent TEDx event operated under license issued by TED and is open to the public.

The event will feature approximately 10-15 diverse speakers and performers, with points of view based on an array of subject areas rooted in the theme of “Polarity.”  The Oxford Dictionary defines polarity as being “the state of having two opposite or contradictory tendencies, opinions, or aspects.” Things that appear as opposites are in fact only two extremes of the same thing.  As one of the 7 Universal Laws, the Law of Polarity decrees everything in the universe has two sides.  In fact, only two extremes of the same thing are simply varying degrees of the same thing. One steps into power through perception—to see both sides of a person, situation or circumstance. Negative or positive, hot or cold, love or hate, polarity is determined by how one chooses to think – choices, not situations or circumstances, will create the desired outcome.

Polarity was the theme in 2020 before the pandemic and the event was forced to cancel, only to return in 2021, as a virtual event with a new theme of Redux-Cogitation.  The Florence planning committee decided return to Polarity to allow those who were interested in this theme to share their ideas.

The Florence planning committee has an open call for speakers and performers, for which each is charged with speaking or performing 6-8 minutes. Those selected will have to participate in a speaker and performer training beginning in preparation for the event.  Anyone interested in participating can visit the website, www.tedxevansstreet.org, and complete the application for consideration.  The application process will close on Feb. 26.

Ms. Perry said, “To become a speaker or performer at a TEDx or TED event is so very different than just giving a motivational talk or performance. Collectively, it is an international platform to promote deep thinking based on understanding subject matter without intellectual and emotional boundaries.  It is about presenting those ideas that would encourage action, mental and physical action. In the Greater Pee Dee area, there are so many diverse voices, we look forward to hearing their take on “Polarity.””

Speakers and performers talk may reach a vast audience on the web.  In addition to being posted on TEDxEvansStreet website and YouTube channel, TED will select some TEDx talks to be released online and most are viewed by at least 100,000 people, and some by several million. Indeed, in aggregate, TED Talks have been viewed more than 100 million times worldwide. This exposure has transformed the

careers of many TEDx presenters and performers, either by introducing them to larger audiences or recasting them as a thought leader.
